Beef Shorthorns

We farm the Itchen Valley in Hampshire where half of the cattle graze the old water meadows and drink the chalk stream waters, with the remainder grazing the slopes of chalk downland just across the way.

Currently we calve around 80 cows and heifers and regularly have all classes of stock for sale.

The Shorthorn is the oldest recorded breed of cattle in the UK, and the Coates's Herd Book began registering Shorthorn cattle in 1822. The original Shorthorn cattle were very much dual purpose animals but subsequent breeding and selection for specialist beef traits led to a division of the herdbook, and the formation in 1959 of the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society.
